Privacy Policy

We built Overline to be a tool you can trust. This page explains exactly what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
Overview
Overline ("we", "our", or "us") is a Chrome extension that provides real-time AI captions and live translation for browser videos. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Overline.
By installing and using the Overline extension, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you have questions, contact us at mehdi@oncillaai.com.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Account Information
When you sign in, we collect your name and email address via Google OAuth. This is used to identify your account and sync your usage limits and transcript history.
Tab Audio
When you start captioning, Overline captures the audio stream from the active browser tab using Chrome's tab audio capture API. This audio is streamed in real time to our servers for transcription and translation. We do not access your microphone.
Transcripts
The text output of each captioning session (your transcript) is saved to your account so you can review and export it later. Transcripts are associated with your account and stored securely.
Usage Data
We track how many minutes of captioning you have used in the current billing period to enforce plan limits. We also collect basic analytics (e.g., which languages you use, session durations) to improve the product.
Audio Capture & Transcription
Audio privacy is central to how Overline works. Here is what you should know:
- Tab audio only. Overline only captures audio from the specific browser tab you are watching. It never accesses your microphone, system audio, or audio from other tabs.
- Streaming, not recording. Audio is streamed to our transcription provider (Deepgram) in real time. We do not store raw audio on our servers.
- Opt-in only. Audio capture begins only when you click "Start Captions" and stops immediately when you stop captions or close the tab.
- Third-party processing. Transcription is powered by Deepgram. Translation is powered by Google's Gemini model. Both providers process audio/text under their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.
How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide real-time captioning and translation services
- Save and display your transcript history
- Enforce plan usage limits (Free: 20 min/month, Pro: 600 min/month)
- Send transactional emails (e.g., usage warnings, plan confirmations)
- Improve product quality and fix bugs using aggregated analytics
- Respond to support requests you submit to us
We do not sell your personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties beyond what is required to operate the service (transcription and translation providers).
Data Retention
Transcript data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual transcripts or your entire account at any time by contacting us at mehdi@oncillaai.com.
Audio data is not stored. It is streamed to our transcription provider and discarded immediately after transcription. Raw audio is never persisted on our servers.
Usage counters (minutes used) are reset monthly and not archived beyond aggregate anonymized statistics.
Third-Party Services
Overline relies on the following third-party services to operate:
Deepgram
Real-time speech-to-text transcription. Audio is streamed to Deepgram for processing. Deepgram's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy.
Google Gemini
Live translation of transcribed text. Text is sent to Google's Gemini API for translation. Google's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy.
Supabase
Account data and transcript storage. Your account details and transcripts are stored in Supabase's hosted database infrastructure.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion — Request deletion of your account and all associated data, including transcripts.
- Correction — Request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
- Portability — Export your transcripts at any time as TXT or SRT files directly from the extension.
- Withdrawal — Stop using the extension at any time. Uninstalling Overline from Chrome immediately stops all data collection.

Children's Privacy
Overline is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at mehdi@oncillaai.com and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email. Continued use of Overline after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
